Factions

Hello Friends and Colleagues,

I have just launched the Kickstarter campaign for phase one of Factions - an action-packed comedy series. This is the first of three phases.

Please check out the project and help fund a truly independent animated series. We have some fun rewards for contributors. My favorite rewards are the animated thank-you where contributors can chose which character personally voices thank-you. And at the highest level are the 5-inch tall Buck Chili and Julius Jones figurines.

Thank you,

Well, maybe not!

As with all personal projects there times when no progress is made on Vacant Planet. This is one of those times. I try to be a slave to my whims. My current whims are finally getting good and guitar and cycling. They are much easier things to jump in and out of as opposed to animation.

Jason Diorio - Thief!

http://jasondiorio.blogspot.com/

Much of the artwork on Jason site is ripped of from artist at Nickelodeon. The prick has the nerve to put the work in a gallery, and have his smiling mug photographed with it.

His deception is premeditated. He posts drawings and then several days later post the paintings. The sketches were done by Mike Dougherty and Jen Woods. The paintings were done by Bill Dely.

I've seen people do this several time in my career and I'm blown away that these idiots think they can get away with it.

Bye bye Jason. Have fun with Viacom's Lawyers.

Robot Fuel

On Vacant Planet robots were made to run on the most abundant fuel source: burgers. Burger Monkey is the only form of food on the planet. If you go to the movies Burger Monkey provides the snacks; if you have a fancy night out with the girl of your dreams; a Burger Monkey value meal is what awaits you underneath the silver cover. Whatever the guise Burger Monkey is inside.

Tak and the Power of Juju

Hey everybody,

Tak Premieres this Friday on Nickelodeon. This is the project I've been working on for the past 1.5 years. Its cost me (or gave, depending on my mood) two tips to Hyderabad, India. Hyderabad has had two bombings while our people have been there. Fun.

I was Supervising Animator on one of the 11 minutes cartoons, The Woodifest. The supervising animators on this show are responsible for making sure the show is do-able during the script/board stage, and after the animatic is locked we guide the show to completion. This is really wrestling the animation from India into submission using a lot of notes and drawovers.

I'll post some of these drawovers later.

More Bots

Organ Grinder Monkey Robot
I'm always debating what to show, I don't want to spoil the fun, the shock, the whatever.

Here's some samples of the boards from The Birth of Balbar Yog. I'm doing the boards in Alias Sketch Book. The animatic is being cutin Premiere Pro. Its a nice setup; if I need to change anything I justRight-Click and hit Edit Original. As soon as I save it it updates in the edit.

This is a QT of shader tests for Balbar. All the renders are the Max Scanline.http://www.mcsteed.com/forum/Balbar.mov

This is a picture of Balbar Yog's control room. The textures on the purple Bully-Bot are not final.

Welcome to the Vacant Planet production blog.

I've decided to keep a Production Diary of my work on part two of the Vacant Planet series, 'The Birth of Balbar Yog.' I make no guarantees about posting something daily but I’m hoping to give people some indication of progress.
